Premium collection for independent insurance agencies

Premium an agency collects is somebody else money on its way to a carrier, and the payment stack either respects that or quietly turns a fiduciary balance into a cash-flow question.

What premium money is, and what that forces

Every item here is a consequence of premium not belonging to the agency at the moment it is collected.

What to ask before moving your premium collection

Written for an agency principal, not for a procurement form.

Questions agency principals ask

Answers that state a rule are marked draft until counsel signs them off.

Is collected premium kept apart from agency income?

Yes. Premium held for a carrier and agency commission income sit on separate settlement paths so neither can be used to cover the other. (DRAFT — pending counsel)

A client card is reissued halfway through a premium schedule. What breaks?

Nothing the policyholder sees. The stored credential updates against the schedule and the next instalment draws on time. Where it genuinely cannot update, the agency gets a task before the client gets a lapse notice.

Can clients pay a down payment by card and the rest by bank debit?

Yes. The binding payment and the installment schedule stay linked to one policy record regardless of which rail each uses.

Can we add a charge for card acceptance on premium?

That is decided by card-brand rules, state insurance regulation and your carrier agreement together, so it is answered per agency rather than in general. (DRAFT — pending counsel)

Do we have to leave our agency management system?

No. We integrate with what the agency runs. If it is working, we do not touch it.

Both are open to anyone, and neither asks for a policyholder record of any kind.
